The Indians caught a lucky break. Carlos Carrasco is only bruised.
An MRI taken Monday revealed that Cleveland’s steady starter only suffered a bruised right elbow when he was struck by a vicious line drive on Saturday against Minnesota.
”We dodged a huge bullet Womens DeSean Jackson Jersey ,” said relieved Indians manager Terry Francona.
Carrasco, who has previously sustained serious injuries after being hit by comebackers, will be treated for swelling over the next 48 hours before being evaluated on Wednesday.
At this point, it’s expected that Carrasco will return to the rotation and mound once his stint on the disabled list ends.
”He still got hit really hard and there’s some trauma,” Francona said before the Indians opened a three-game series with the Chicago White Sox. ”The hope would be, once he gets the swelling out of there, that he’ll come quick because it’s a bruise and it could have been a lot worse.”
In the second inning on Saturday Kevin Shattenkirk Jersey , Twins star Joe Mauer hit a line drive that Carrasco couldn’t avoid. The 31-year-old, who has been one of the AL’s most consistent pitchers the past three seasons, braced himself before absorbing the liner. He was forced to leave the game and taken to the hospital.
Carrrasco has a history of being hit on the mound. He was struck in the face in 2015 and then missed the 2016 playoffs after breaking his hand, a blow that left the Indians short one of their top pitchers during their run to the World Series.
But despite Carrasco’s track record of being a target, Francona isn’t worried about the 31-year-old showing any jitters when he pitches.
”He’s been hit before and you think, `OK will it bother him?”’ Francona said. ”He’s been hit before so I think he’s champing at the bit to get this out of there and start pitching again. It’s easy to tell him, `Hey http://www.officialh...rc-staal-jersey , don’t worry about it.’ I’m not the one standing out there.
”This is fourth time, and I’ve never seen any ill effects before and I don’t anticipate any going forward. I think he’s just glad that it’s a bruise and see how quick he can get better.”
Francona chalked up Carrasco’s mound misfortune to bad luck.
”I do think there are pitchers that put themselves in a position where they are not able to field their position, but Carlos is fine,” Francona said. ”He lands flat and he’s in a really good position, most of the time. The fact that he could get his hand up and kind of block it and not hit somewhere else.”

The Oakland Raiders came one step closer to securing the land the team needs for its new headquarters and practice facility near Las Vegas – and at a steep discount.
Officials in suburban Henderson approved a resolution Tuesday that allows the city to move forward with a direct sale of 55 acres (22 hectares) to the Raiders for more than $6 million – half the land’s appraised value. The city is using a Nevada law that allows for no-bid sales at under-market prices when they are considered to be in the public interest.
”This is an opportunity to take the city of Henderson to a new level,” Assistant City Manager Greg Blackburn said during the city council meeting ahead of the resolution vote. ”It’s hard to put a dollar value to what this does to help us for the future.”
The Raiders have promised that the venue will create an estimated 250 full-time jobs not counting players. The team will spend about $75 million to build the complex.
The team wants to kick off its 2020 season at a 65,000-seat domed stadium built partially with taxpayers’ money across the freeway from the Las Vegas Strip. The team in May paid $77.5 million for the 62-acre (25-hectare) site and hosted a glitzy groundbreaking ceremony in November.
Guests of hotels and other lodging facilities in the Las Vegas area are contributing $750 million to the project through a room tax increase. The Raiders and the NFL are expected to contribute $500 million to the project Authentic Mats Zuccarello Jersey , while the team has also secured a $600 million bank loan for construction.
Henderson’s city council must vote again next month to give final approval to the offer.
Henderson officials said the city will benefit from property taxes collected on the land and additional spending from visitors and team clients. City staff said similar projects have created an estimated $210 million tax impact over a decade after the venues are fully built.
Not all residents were supportive of the city’s decision.
”The Raiders have been Gypsies over the years, starting in Oakland, then moving to El Segundo (LA) for a few years, then back to Oakland and now Las Vegas. Where to next?” Henderson resident Adrian Woodhouse wrote the city council in an email.
On Wednesday, commissioners in Clark County approved a development agreement with the team that spells out public safety and infrastructure improvements that the Raiders will pay for in and around the stadium.
The agreement calls for widening sidewalks, improving roadways, installing and modifying traffic signals Mika Zibanejad Jersey , and building any needed pedestrian bridges.
The team agreed to install about $1.4 million worth of public safety equipment at the stadium and an emergency operations center. The development agreement did not include a finalized plan for the thousands of county-mandated parking spaces.
